Pico Projector Info is the web's leading resource on Pico Projectors. These projectors are small enough to be embedded in mobile phones and other devices, and are becoming more and more popular. Our site brings you daily news, projector resources, an on-line shop and more!

Microvision announces financial results: $2.1M in revenue, $11.1M in loss, new $3.4M follow-up order

Microvision logoMicrovision has announced their financial results for 2Q 2010: revenue was $2.1 million (up from 1$ million for 2Q 2009) and net loss was $11.1 million, a little more than last year. Microvision's backlog grew to $20.1 million, and this includes a new $3.4 million follow-up order from their initial OEM customer (they probably mean Uniden).

Solidmicro SD-HK800

Solidmicro's SD-HK800 is an LCoS (640x480, 30 lumens) pico projector that runs Windows CE 5.0 on a TCC7901 498MHZ × 2 Dual CPU and supports office documents, PDFs, movies, photos and audio files from its internal 2GB memory (and it has a microSD slot, too). The optics are made by 3M. The projector comes in white or in black.

Uniden's Show-WX pico-projector video ad

Uniden is reselling Microvision's ShowWX pico-projector, calling it simply the Uniden laser pico projector. They have produced a nice 3 minute video ad:

The Show WX is the world's first laser-beam-steering pico-projector that offers focus-free 848x480 image at 10 lumens. The Show WX is shipping in the US for $549.

The AAXA P2 pico projector now costs $299

AAXA has lowered the price of their P2 pico-projector, and now it costs $299 over at Amazon.com (down from $319). The P2 offers 800x600 resolution at 33 lumens, 1GB of memory on board, microSD slot, VGA connector and stereo speakers.

Bonitor MP302

The MP302 is a tiny (110g, 25mm thin) LCoS (640x480, 15 lumens) pico-projector that is powered from the USB port of your Windows or Mac computer. It also includes a small amount of memory (128MB) for short videos or photos (you need to connect the included DC power cable in this mode).

3 Show-WX projectors used to create a single large image

Check out this nice demo: using Datatron's Watchout software and up to 3 Show-WX projectors, a single seamless projected image was created, about 10 feet long by 3 feet tall. They also took 2 projectors, and a standard lampshade to create an interesting seamless video image.

The Show-WX is a laser pico-projector offering focus-free 848x480 image at 10 lumens. It's shipping now for $549.

Seikowave develops cheap 3D modeling using pico-projectors

Seikowave, a new US based start-up is working towards cheap 3D modeling using pico-projectors. The modeling technique, called Structured light illumination (SLI) automatically builds a 3D model using stripes of projected light and a digital camera that records their deformation. Software algorithms can then be used to find the size shape and contours of the object.

According to Seikowave, this is an expensive technique today because the projectors are expensive. Using pico-projectors will make it cheaper of course. Seikowave is talking with MEMS pico-projectors makers to create special high-frame-rate projectors that can be used for SLI (they need about 120 to 150 frames per second).

Interestingly, just last week we reported that 4D Dynamics is selling a similar setup called PicoScan. They are using an LCoS projector (either an AAXA P2 or an Adapt 305) and a Canon 1000D DSLR. The PicoScan is available now for $1999.
