Microvision integrates direct green laser in pico projector prototypes
Microvision announced that they have successfully integrated direct green lasers samples into pico projector prototypes. They have used samples from two manufacturers. Using direct green lasers can have a significant advantage in terms of size, power, performance and price (Microvision's Show-WX, the first (and only) laser-beam-steering pico-projector costs $549).
Microvision's current PicoP engine users a frequency-doubled “synthetic” green laser. Such lasers are infrared lasers manipulated to reduce the wavelength and so produce green light. The conversion requires a complex system, and this is why it's so important to use direct green lasers.
