Opus Microsystems unveils a direct-green-laser projector module, to be available by the end of 2011

Opus Microsystems unveiled a new laser (LBS) pico projector module, the ePro-1000, that uses a direct green laser diode. The module features WVGA (800×480) resolution and 12 lm/W efficiency. The volume is 7cc. Opus' design uses a single 2D MEMS scanning mirror and it also includes a newly developed video processor chip that provides a standard video interface to make it easy to embed this module.

Opus Microsystems say that the new module will be commercially available by the end of 2011 - which will make it the first direct-green-laser pico projector module on the market. Opus wouldn't say who is the green laser supplier though. A direct green laser should mean lower speckle, better power consumption and lower price.

More efficient than MVIS?

Given that Microvision was claiming ~2W for 10 lumens, it appears this module is at least twice as efficient.
