Researchers develop a DLC based projector screen for lighted environmentsResearchers from the Tohoku University in Japan developed a new projector screen that's based on Diffused Light Control (DLC). The idea is that only light that comes from the projector (positioned below the screen) is reflected (or diffused) towards the viewer - while the rest of the light (coming from the sun or lamps) is absorbed or reflected away. This could be really useful for pico projectors which are very problematic in non-dark rooms. Of course this is just a prototype - it's rather small (you can see that the large screen is made from several tiled screens) and under direct light it's not very useful - but the researchers say they intend to keep tweaking it to improve the performance under strong light.
