quite expensive
Even with the latest version of the DLP, the cost is still way too high...typical chipset cost is significantly higher than the permissive cost of the entire projector for most of the market. Hence it is only being released in Korea. Also, too bad it is only pseudo WVGA (not true WVGA the as the pixels in the rows and columns are counted twice). But I guess that is the only way DLP can even try to compete.
Do you have any source about
Do you have any source about the "pseudo WVGA" claim??
Yes...I was tipped about it
Yes...I was tipped about it from one of the DLP engineers. And it turns out it is also something you can check if you can find an actual layout of the chip. You will notice that the pixels are arranged in a staggered "diamond" formation to create each row and column (the pixels are rotated 45 degrees). In this arrangement, every row and column only contains half of the pixels of a normal "square" arrangement. So when you count each row and column, the pixel effectively gets counted twice. So while at first glance it seems that it is WVGA, in reality, they are at half of the pixels of everyone else's WVGA.
