Sharp announces the world's highest-efficiency red laser diode for pico projectors

Sharp announced a new high-efficiency red laser diode aimed towards laser pico projectors and head-up displays (HUDs). The GH0641FA2C operates in a single mode and features a waveband of 640nm and a light conversion efficiency of 33% (Sharp says it's the highest conversion efficiency in the industry).

Sharp will offer samples towards the end of 2013 for ¥5,000 (about $60) and mass production will begin towards the end of March 2013 (Sharp plans to produce 10,000 units monthly).
