Sumitomo develops direct green laser, to be available in 2013

Sumitomo Electric Industries say that they have achieved pulse oscillation with green laser (531nm). Up till now the only option to make a green laser was to use a red laser and convert the wavelength. This resulted in very large and non-efficient design. This is critical for pico projectors as the green laser is one of the largest components in an LBS projector.

But Sumitomo still have problems with commercializing the green laser, and it'll probably take till 2013 to actually get such products available.
