LG's eXpo projector phone is a bit of old news (it was announced in November 2009), but if you still haven't bought your pico-projector accessory for your eXpo phone, you'de be happy to hear that LG are now selling it for just $29.99! The DLP projector offers 480x320 resolution.

The LG eXpo itself is a QWERTY slider running Windows Mobile 6.5 on a 1Ghz CPU, and it's got a 3.2" touchscreen, 5mp camera and a microSD slot.

Update: Amazon now lists the projector as 'currently unavailable', we don't know when/if it'll be back in stock...

LG's eXpo projector phone has caused a lot of hype back in December 2009 when it was released. But only now LG released the projector accessory: for $199. The DLP projector offers 480x320 resolution: that's the old DLP pico-projector chip (the new ones feature 854x480). Still, if you have bought the eXpo already, you can finally add a projector...

LG has filed a patent called “Mobile terminal with image projection”. It's a system that allows a gesture/touch user interface on a projected image. The idea is a system that identifies a pointer (finger), the shadow of the finger on the projected image and the distance between those two. When you touch something on the image, the distance is shorter - and thus you have a 'touch event'. Gesture interface is done similarly.

Funny, but true. Most people do not realize that the pico-projectors are really not meant to replace a TV or a normal projector...

Here's a nice video from the Mobile World Congress show - TI demoing their DLP pico-projector chipsets and gadgets that use it (the Samsung Beam and W9600, LG Expo and NTT DoCoMo dock F-04B).

A reviewer from New Zealand is the first one to get an LG eXpo phone with the pico-projector accessory. This might mean that AT&T will soon start selling the projector unit (for $179).
